An Italian who aspires to be admitted to an American university must meet specific academic requirements and take a series of tests:
- High School Diploma
- Demonstrate a certain level of English language proficiency through the TOEFL, Duolingo, or IELTS exam
- Take a university entrance exam (SAT or ACT) – not mandatory
Not all academic Institutions require students to take a language exam, and each college is free to require different scores on each language and SAT/ACT exam.
Each university can require any type of language exam and also establish what is the minimum score necessary for an international student to be admitted to the Undergraduate and Graduate programs.
As a result of the pandemic, the SAT and ACT are no longer mandatory for admission to many colleges. However, these tests allow you to show your reading comprehension, writing, logic and calculation skills and are very useful as components to strengthen your application and possibly to be able to try to access scholarships for academic merit as well.
