American College Male Volleyball Showcase

After the debut, with the 2021 edition of the first men's showcase, we are proud to announce the dates of the third edition of the only event in Italy dedicated to men's volleyball. Also this summer, Italian and international volleyball players will be able to approach the world of colleges and show their skills

The goal (as in the female) is to ensure that every athlete can demonstrate their sporting, relational and cultural skills with the aim of being considered for obtaining a scholarship for sporting merit in universities in the United States of America.

The Showcase will be led by American coaches assisted by current student-athletes who will help in the intercultural and linguistic exchange between athletes, coaches and staff. 

The program includes accommodation in the splendid setting of the Castelli Romani on the outskirts of Rome, 2 indoor volleyball practices, meetings between the consultants and the athletes in collective form and individual and direct contact with American coaches both on and off the court. There will also be a simulation of the TOEFL test run by our partner Byron Tree School of English.

 

Location: Frascati (Roma), one of the most beautiful and characteristic towns of the Castelli Romani, just outside Rome. 

Room and board: Domus Park Hotel, via Tuscolana 15 - Frascati (Roma). 

Practice gym: Palazzetto dello Sport Frascati, viale Luigi Einaudi 7, 00044 - Frascati (Roma).

Transportation: There is a permanent transportation service between the accomodation and the gym. The participation fee includes transportation from / to airport or railway station in the times and manner agreed with the staff.

Athletes: The Showcase includes a maximum of 15 athletes who will be able to carry out training for both groups and individual based on the specific needs of technical / game training of each session. On the main court in parquet will be arranged a single central court.

Staff: The staff will consist of coordinators, American coaches, Italian coaches, student-athletes and assistants for material and transport. Other student-athletes, former volleyball players and professionals/e and Italian coaches are also expected to participate.

Pat KendrickHead Coach a Xavier University of Louisiana (NAIA)

She has been a coach for 30 years at NCAA DI's George Mason University and won the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Best Coach Award 8 times, before deciding to move to bring her experience to Xavier University of Louisiana. After 10 consecutive titles won in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, in the recently concluded season, Xavier's volleyball team coached by coach Pat won its second title in the Red River Athletic Conference, thus bringing the record to 11 and thus guaranteeing itself access to the nationals preliminary rounds. Several Italian athletes have been and still are part of the team with a scolarship for sporting merit. Coach Pat has led the training sessions of all our Showcase editions and we are proud to continue to have her with us again this year. 

 

Coach Gary Lee Preston Jr.

 

has over 10 years of experience coaching collegiate volleyball in the United States. This includes coaching at Division l, ll and lll levels. Specifically, in 2017, Gary helped lead Hunter College Men’s Volleyball Program to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division lll National Championships. The team was ranked in the top 10 in Division III men's volleyball and ended the season 28-7. This was a historical season for Hunter College with winning the conference and being ranked 7th in the country.
Gary then had the honor of coaching overseas while working towards a Masters in Sports and Exercise Psychology in 2018. During this time, he helped guide the London Orcas to the Super 8 Women’s Finals. After his time in the United Kingdom, Gary went on to be an Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach at University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. The team won the Heartland Conference, which gave them an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. The team finished the year ranked in the top 30 in the country with a record of 21-12. 

 

Furthering his career, Gary quickly transitioned to Division l at Bethune-Cookman University as the Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach during the 2019 season. Gary served as a recruiting coordinator, coordinator of the offense, equipment manager and player in practice. 

Being a native to the northeast of the United States, Gary made his way back to New York where he coached at Mercy College, a Division II volleyball program, while also coaching full-time for Brooklyn Elite Volleyball Club. Additionally, Gary also serves as a traveling coach for Gold Medal Squared, a company that provides volleyball clinics for coaches, summer volleyball camps for athletes and online training platforms, etc. As a traveling coach, Gary helps run clinics throughout the US and educates volleyball coaches on up-to-date volleyball skills, techniques, and tactics. 

Besides a successful coaching career, Gary had an accomplished collegiate playing career at New Jersey City University where he was a three-year starter as a setter. He was the team captain in 2014 and was named Second Team All-Skyline Conference in 2014.

Gary is currently pursuing a Masters in Sports Management at Rome City Institute.

  • Full room and board at the splendid structure of Domus Park Hotel from Wednesday 14th afternoon to Thursday 15th after lunch;

  • Information and material on how to get college athletic scholarship through specific presentations and various activities on American's academic, sports and cultural systems;

  • All the activities on the current tentative schedule including any trips and evening in the center of Frascati;

  • Personalized form and individual interview with each of the participants at the end of the event with a report of the evaluation by the American coaches. 

 

COVID PREVENTION: all Covid protocols will be respected both within the hotel, during the training sessions and the various organized activities.

Registration procedure:

1. Confirm your registration by filling in the participation form: 

2.The participant will receive an email with the next steps:

  • Bank details to make the initial payment of €70,00 and reserve your seat*
  • Procedure to carry out the online English assessment that will allow teachers to determine whether the athlete has the necessary skills to support the TOEFL simulation.

3. The participants will then receive an email for the balance of the participation fee and final confirmation of the registration and assignment place together with a list of things to bring to the Showcase.

Registrations open subject to availability of places per positions.

 

* In case of renunciation or cancellation, the initial payment will be refunded in full or in part with the following methods: 

- Refund of 100% of the amount in case of cancellation of the event due to force majeure.

- Refund of 100% of the amount in case of cancellation by April 30th, 2023.

- Refund of 50% of the amount in case of cancellation by May 30th, 2023.

- No refund of the initial payment in case of cancellation after May 30th, 2023, but the athlete will have full credit for participation in a subsequent edition of the Showcase or discount on the contract.
