Tuesday, July 2, 2019

Three out of three. An event continuously growing from year to year, from edition to edition. The American College Volleyball Showcase 2019 held between Trevignano Romano and Anguillara from June 10th to 13th, was a success.

A real volleyball full-immersion with 31 girls involved in training, studying and a bit of relax, of course. Several Coaches from important Universities of the United States took part to this 3rd edition,  starting with Pat Kendrick, Head Coach at Xavier University of Louisiana and Chris Vergnaud, Head Coach at the College of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas/Henderson. Also participating many other Universities such as St. John's University (NY): Joanne Persico (HC) NCAA D1; HofstraUniversity (NY): Brian Toron (AC) NCAA D1; Pennsylvania State University: Katie Schumacher-Cawley (AC) NCAA D1; RutgersUniversity (NJ): C.J. Werneke (HC) NCAA D1; West Virginia University: Adriano De Souza (AC) NCAA D1; University of San Francisco (CA): Frank Lavrisha (HC) NCAA D1; Old Dominion University: Frederick Chao (HC) NCAA D1. The event was also attended by Coaches Marcelo De Stefano, Mattia Saltini, Roberto Fant and Roberto Canfora who had the opportunity to observe closely the American training methods.

The showcase started on Monday when the players from all over Italy arrived at the Rocca Romana Residence where Jesica Umansky, Elitza Krasteva and the entire Sportlinx360 staff welcomed them. In the afternoon, all the girls in the gym for the first practice. In the evening, after dinner, the official presentation of the 2019 American College Volleyball Showcase gave to athletes the opportunity to discover all the details of the American sports and academic system while coaches were attending the round table with Luca Cristofani, Technical Director of Volleyrò. This last exclusive technical workshop, in which both American and Italian coaches were involved, led to an international comparison on various topics starting from training methods, technique, preparation for competitions and management of athletes. A high-quality event that gave value to the 2019 Showcase.

The second day, a double training session under the eyes of the American Coaches, with the assistance of Italian coaches Damiano Ferlito, Andrea Ebana and the Student-Athletes, Anna Dalla Vecchia and Caterina Cigarini, perfect representatives of how it is possible to combine sport and study in the United States: they have already started with Sportlinx360 this wonderful adventure. The presence of the two student-athletes gave the opportunity to participants to ask specific questions about everyday  life, study and sport in the USA; moreover the presence of Emily, the third American Student-Athlete at the Showcase and Anna Dalla Vecchia's teammate, gave the players a chance to test their English right away, using every moment to do some conversation, on and off the court. On Wednesday morning the dreaded TOEFL, the simulation of the test, managed by our partner Byron Tree School of English: a test allowing all the athletes and also the interested Italian coaches to measure their English level. The afternoon again practice with athletic tests and technical part.

In the morning there were also the individual meetings with the players, the American Coaches and the Sportlinx360 staff in order to understand what could be the most suitable athletic and academic path for each of them.

Last day focused on beach volleyball, with Ilaria Angelelli, volleyball and beach volleyball player and beach volleyball coach with ten-year experience at the Beach Volley Academy. A final day in which all the players gave their best on the sand, once again showing off their skills.

We would like to say is a huge THANK YOU to all those who participated. THANKS to the players, families, coaches, to staff, Rocca Romana Residence, Polisportiva Anguillara and Volley Anguillara. THANKS to all the people who have made this event possible: once again it has fueled the passion of so many young women who cultivate the dream of flying to the United States.
